Raised in Madison, Wisconsin and born in Duluth, Minnesota in 1966... I am now living and working as a metalsmith and jewelry designer in South Western Colorado.
Many of my designs incorporate organic form, multi-cultural motifs and symbolism. It is my hope to create jewelry pieces which inspire and empower the wearer... talismans for planetary healing and wearable art which evokes messages of unity, preservation of nature and harmony. I suppose my first love for jewelry and gemstones developed at a very early age, as I would frequent Burnie's Rock Shop (still operating in Madison) with my Mother on a regular basis to pick up bead stringing supplies and to gaze at their fantastic crystals, gems and fossils. Together we would make our own jewelry creations... stringing sterling beads & gemstones to make necklaces for friends, family and ourselves. It seemed that nearly all of my art projects evolved into pieces of jewelry... The opportunity to study jewelry design and metalsmithing appeared several years after finishing a B.A. in Communications at Ripon College in WI. I worked in fundraising and P.R. in Chicago and then moved to New Orleans in 1992, where I took metalsmithing classes in order to make the designs in my mind come to fruition. Thus far, I have been very fortunate to apprentice and work with many artisans... Beau Staley, Thomas Mann, Margo Manning, Tony Newlin, Dana Sherman, Stella Dottir, Juan Loredo, Merry Pierce-Lowrey and the 511 Marigny Studios in New Orleans. Working with gemstones, pearls, gold, platinum & sterling... I've been awarded with an Alpha Award by Fashion Group International for my Mandala Rosette Baby Rattle in sterling silver with pearls. In addition to operating this online boutique, I occasionally sell my work through select galleries. Thank you for your interest in my work... I hope to have the pleasure of making something special for you one day! --Jenn Dewey |
